While on vacation in Atlanta, I had the honor of photographing a fine old fellow, Luuk (“Luke”), a dog of my sister-in-law’s neighbor. Luuk’s an English setter, going on 17, and still walks like a hunting dog — nose to the ground. His gate still has purpose. But his eyes are weak, his frame shows; his eyes tell the years they’ve witnessed. So we spent a morning together, mom Anneke, son Maurits and girlfriend Laura, walking the neighborhood. Didn’t get far; just up the hill to our house to visit his good friend Riley, our family’s English lab.
As Anneke said, they wanted to have some photos to remember him, as he’s really part of the family. Thanks again, Valk family, for the opportunity to spend time with such a beautiful pet. Godspeed, Luuk. May your days be long and full of treats and naps. Good boy!
We had a great time today at CityPlace for the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League’s pet photos with Santa. Some great outfits, and lots of licks and smiles.

“Princess Leia” (Maisy) and mom Courtney Barnes, greeted dozens of scary, funny and creatively-dressed friends for their annual Halloween costume contest this week. Costumes ranged from the timely (An Macintosh II computer and “mouse”), to the alter-ego (sheep, lady bug, lion, bumble bee, shark), to the stylish (punk fasionishta), and beyond (anyone for a domino’s pizza with eyeballs??).
Great fun, great prizes, and no biting!! The week’s Halloween pet events are off to a howling good time. We’ll see you all Friday night, October 28, for the PAARL’s Art & Wine at Northwood Village Promenade, West Palm Beach. See their Facebook page for more details. It’s a dog’s life!
